FLORIDA BUSINESS FILING & COMPLIANCE

A different business name? Start here.

Florida uses fictitious name registration for many businesses operating under a name other than their legal name.

The filing basics

The state registration fee is $50. A fictitious name registration is generally valid for five years and expires December 31 of the final year.

Publication comes before filing

The official instructions require the name to be advertised at least once in a newspaper in the county of the principal place of business. The applicant certifies publication when signing. Newspaper charges are separate from the state fee.

A DBA is not an LLC

It does not create a separate business entity, and registration does not establish exclusive trademark rights. Confirm whether an exemption applies before filing.

Our filing-help service fee is being finalized. We will not certify publication or sign for you without the required evidence and authorization.
